Symposium on China's Risk Investment and Internet/E-commerce Called

A two-day international symposium on Risk Investment and Internet/E-commerce in China was called in Beijing on April 3. Attended by prominent world Internet elites, the symposium is the largest one that has been held so far in China in the field of risk investment and Internet/E-commerce.

Important discussions have been held at the symposium by representatives from US Silicon Valley Bank, ten world well-known risk investment companies and hundreds of high-tech enterprises, figures with big clout in US Silicon Valley and over 400 representatives from Chinese enterprises.

The focus of the symposium is on business opportunities brought by the Internet economy and roles of risk investment on the Internet, biological science, communication, new energy resources, technological innovations, multimedia and other high-tech industries have been given comprehensive discussions. In addition, the development pattern of international E-commerce is also an important topic to be talked about at the symposium.

Prediction based on present development pace of the Internet in China has shown that the number of Chinese netizens by 2008 will exceed the US and China will become the world largest Internet market. As to how many opportunities the bright future of the Internet in China means, the elites know perfectly well.

Former Principal of Berkeley, California University of the United States and prominent overseas Chinese scientist and educator Tian Changlin made a keynote speech at the symposium. In his speech titled "The Rising Knowledge Economy in Big China Area", he pointed out that the economic development center in the 21st century will move to the Asia-Pacific region, meanwhile globalization will loom as the most important development trend.

In his speech, he has also made an analysis of advantages that China has obtained in the era of knowledge economy and stressed that China and the US, as two of the most important countries in the world, should change their traditional concepts and develop cooperation for further bilateral development.

MOFTAC vice Minister Long Yongtu, vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC Cheng Siwei and Minister of Information Industry Ministry Wu Jichuan also made keynote speeches at the symposium. Long Yongtu said that China's decision and entry into WTO demonstrates China wants as part of the world to be a component of the world economy, and to this end China will adhere to policies developing market economy and opening up.
