More Chinese Receive College Education Via Net, TV, Radio

More than 1.5 million people in China are now receiving college-level instruction via the Net, television and radio.

They are learning some 500 subjects, ranging from computer science and technology, English, law and finance, to more basic subjects, according to sources at a recent national meeting on radio and TV university education, which was held in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

The expansion of the Internet in China has added to the ways people can receive a college education more conveniently, said the sources.

For instance, the installation of video-frequency conference systems has made it possible for students to take part in discussions with host lecturers while watching TV broadcast live via satellites or cable TV network.

Students from areas without Internet access service are also offered on-line information and instruction by the Central Radio and Television University via 609 relay stations distributed across the country.
