The Cotton Output per Mu in Xinjiang Reaches World's Record
Supported by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), The Comprehensive Technology Integrated Sample Project in Developing Sustainable High Quality and Output Cotton in Xinjiang is now in smooth sailing. In 1999, an experimental area in Cele County, south Xinjiang set a new record of ginned cotton of 257.8 kilograms per mu actually gathered in autumn on a plot of 5.3 mu.
The experts assert this record has reached the highest level in the world, making a new achievement in the history of cotton planting in Xinjiang. This record epitomizes the painstaking labor of the technicians in the locality and CAS. It is achieved by integrating the cultivating model, fine seeds application, highly effective fertilizer, appropriate application of fertilizer and the prevention and control of plant disease and elimination of insect pests. It is also an inspiring result of a successful merge of former Xinjiang Biology and Soil Desert Institute, Xinjiang Geography Institute, an attempt to make contribution to the development of western area by concentrating scientific and technological advantages and technical objectives since the launching of knowledge innovation project by CAS.
