Electrical Short-circuit Caused the Fire

An official in charge of the investigation told CCTV that the accident in Henan was caused by a short-circuit in the building's electrical wiring.

Yang Ming said: "A primary investigation showed that an electrical short-circuits set sofas and carpeting on fire. Then the fire spread and a disaster followed. We will continue our investigation."

On Friday, Supervision Ministry officials went to Jiaozuo to talk to the people who were believed to be responsible for the fire.

More than 200 relatives of victims gathered in Jiaozuo to confirm the identity of family members. But, the work of identifying the 74 victims went slowly, because 30 of them were burnt beyond recognition.

Eleven people were able to escape the theatre unharmed.
