Shanghai, the East China metropolis and the city of Chiang Mai in Thailand established friendship ties on April 2.
According to an agreement signed by Shanghai Mayor Xu Kuangdi and Governor of Chiang Mai Pravit Sihsobhon, the cities will cooperate in such areas as economy, trade, science, technology, culture, education, sports, health and personnel exchanges, on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
In addition, the two sides will also maintain frequent contacts to discuss issues of common concern.
Shanghai now has sister-city relations with 46 cities worldwide.
