Sun Microsystems to Attend China Business Summit in BeijingExecutives from Sun Microsystems said that the global supplier of network computing solutions will participate for a third year in the World Economic Forum's China Business Summit 2000 in Beijing.In a news briefing Friday for a group of Asian journalists in Palo Alto, California, the executives assessed China's achievements in the introduction of Internet technology in the past few years and their company's ongoing commitment to China's further technological and economic development The summit, with the theme of "China's Emerging Global Role: Impact, Opportunities and Challenges", is to be held from April 16 to 18. It will bring together heads of state, CEOs of Asia's largest corporations and leaders in the fields of science and education to share insights and exchange views on the economic and social forces shaping China's future. As an early investor in China's Information Technology infrastructure, Sun Microsystems began investing in China in 1987 and has played a key role in supplying Internet and intranet technology for China's ambitious IT infrastructure build-out. "This Herculean feat was accomplished through a unique cooperation of government leaders, educators, scientists, foreign partners and a whole new breed of entrepreneurs," said John Gage, chief researcher and director of Sun' Science Office. Gage will participate in a panel discussion of China' role in a global economy at the Summit. "Over the past several years, the information technology has brought more rapid changes than any other to the Chinese economy and people," said Paul Li, marketing director of Sun Microsystems, Greater China. "Sun Microsystems has a firm commitment to providing the latest technologies and products to help sustain that tremendous momentum."
