Early-stage Site Preparations Start for China's National Theater

Early-stage preparations at the site of China's Grand National Theater began in Beijing Saturday.

The theater is located just west of the Great Hall of the People on Tian'anmen Square and will comprise of an opera house, a concert hall, a drama theater and other facilities.

The theater is designed by the well-known French architect Paul Andreu. Qinghua University has also contributed to the design of the theater.

A syndicate including the Beijing Urban Construction Co., Ltd., the Hong Kong Construction (Holding) Co., Ltd. And the Shanghai Construction and Engineering Group won the construction and engineering contract in a domestic bidding.

The Grand National Theater is the first national key project that invited international bidders according to the Law for Inviting and Submitting Tenders adopted last August.
