Shenzhen to Invest More in Infrastructure

Shenzhen, one of China's first special economic zones in Guangdong Province, will invest 57.2 billion yuan for 68 large infrastructure projects over the next few years, a local official said.

By the end of this year, the city will invest 1.27 billion yuan on a dozen projects which are already underway, including the construction of a subway system, according to Zhang Shuo, director of the city's development planning bureau.

Other projects include a transformer substation, transportation, a water supply network, and other infrastructure facilities.

The focus of this year's investment will be 36 key industrial high-tech projects involving high-definition television, computers, mobile phones, laser jets, and biological engineering, all at a cost of some 4.6 billion yuan.

Investment for this year's projects include 1.32 billion yuan in foreign funds, 10 percent of the total.
