Passenger Arrivals in Macao Rise in February

Passenger arrivals in Macao via sea, land and air routes exceeded 813,000 in February this year, a sharp increase of 22.9 percent from a year earlier, the latest official statistics show.

Passenger arrivals from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), the mainland and Taiwan accounted for 59.3 percent, 23.6 percent and 11.3 percent respectively, according to figures released by the Statistics and Census Services of the Macao SAR government.

In the first two months of the year, passenger arrivals in Macao were nearly 1.46 million, a rise of 21.4 percent over the same period last year.

In particular, the number of passengers from the mainland of China increased 56.5 percent in the two months over the same period in 1999 as many people there visited the newly-founded SAR during the Spring Festival in February.
