Reception Marks 50 Years of Sino-Indian Diplomatic Ties

The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries held a reception on March 31 in Beijing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sino-Indian diplomatic relations.

Qi Huaiyuan, president of the Association, said at the reception that China and India, both developing countries with a big population, face the same task of developing their economies and improving the living standards of their peoples.

He said that the friendly cooperation between the two countries accords with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is conducive to the peace and stability in Asia and the rest of the world.

Vijay K. Nambiar, Indian ambassador to China, said that the Indian government highly values its good-neighborly and friendly relations of cooperation with China and will continue to develop and promote exchanges with China in various fields.

Qian Zhengying, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of the China-India Friendship Association, and Yang Wenchang, vice- foreign minister, were among those attending the reception.
