China Sets World Record in Bridge Construction

China sets a world record in bridge construction by building the thinnest pillar comparing with the length of span of the bridge.

The major pillar of the suspended bridge is only three meters high. In contrast, the major span of the bridge is 605 meters in length. The ratio between the height of the pillar and the length of the span is 1:204, setting a record in similar bridges construction in the world.

The bridge is located in Fuzhou city, capital of Fujian province in east China. It is now under construction and will be completed by the end of this year. The total investment in the construction of the bridge exceeded 600 million yuan (about 75 million U.S. dollars).
