China Keen to Promote Ties with Peru: FM

China is ready to work with Peru to further promote bilateral friendly relations, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said in Beijing Thursday.

During talks with his Peruvian counterpart Fernando De Trazegnies, Tang said the friendship and cooperation between the two countries have grown in recent years, and bilateral political relations have been close, high-level exchange of visits have been frequent, bilateral trade has expanded, and mutual investment has been on rise.

The two countries have supported each other and worked in close cooperation on international issues, Tang said, adding that China is satisfied with this and is ready to join efforts with Peru to further bilateral friendly ties. He also expressed high appreciation and gratitude for the Peruvian government's adherence to the One China policy.

Peruvian Foreign Minister Fernando De Trazegnies, who arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for an official visit, highly praised China's achievements in its reform and opening-up drive, and said that he appreciates the growth of Sino-Peruvian friendship and cooperation. He reiterated that Peru observes the One China policy and supports China's sacred cause of peaceful reunification.

The two foreign ministers also briefed each other on their respective domestic situations.

Prior to the talks, both sides signed agreements on civil aviation transportation and on the protection and recovery of cultural property between their governments, and the agreement concerning the establishment of political consultation and cooperation mechanisms between China and the Andean Community.
