Chinese Vice President Meets Peruvian GuestsChinese Vice President Hu Jintao told visiting Peruvian Foreign Minister Fernando De Trazegnies that China attaches great importance to its ties with Peru and is ready to continue to make joint efforts with Peru for the growth of long-term and all-round relations of friendly cooperation between the two countries.Hu spoke highly of the growth of bilateral ties since the two countries forged diplomatic ties. In recent years, he said, China- Peru relations have seen dynamic development with frequent high- level contacts and deepening mutual understanding. Economic and trade links have also been strengthened, he said, adding that Peru has become one of China's major trading partners and receivers of investment in Latin American. Hu also praised the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in international affairs. The vice-president, on behalf of the Chinese government, expressed appreciation and gratitude for the Peruvian government's adherence to the "one China" stance and support of China on the issue of human rights. He briefed De Trazegnies and his party on China's current domestic situation and the situation across the Taiwan Straits. De Trazegnies spoke highly of the cooperation between Peru and China in political, economic, and cultural fields. He reiterated that the Peruvian government firmly adheres to the "one China" policy, supports China's sacred cause of peaceful reunification, and opposes interference in any other country's internal affairs on the pretext of human rights. He said that Peru considers China a reliable friend and partner, saying that Peru is willing to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
