Tianjin Port to Step Up Infrastructure Construction

Tianjin port, the largest in north China, is to make a total investment of more than 1.1 billion yuan this year to speed up infrastructure construction and upgrading.

The money will be mainly used to build five berths, including a 50,000-ton coal berth, a 35,000-ton coal berth, a 30,000-ton coke berth, a 15,000-ton non-metal ore berth, and a 30,000-ton oil berth, and to upgrade eight container berths.

The port's main navigation channel will be expanded to 180 meters from the present 150 meters in order to accommodate 100,000-ton vessels, according to the port administration.

Tianjin port also plans to build new container berths and two international passenger berths.

The port now has 49 berths in the 10,000-ton category or above with a combined annual handling capacity of more than 79 million tons.
