Nambiar warmly praised the elder leaders of both countries for their "courage and wisdom, vision and commitment" at the start of formal diplomatic relations. "We attach great importance to the development of friendly, cooperative, good neighborly and mutually beneficial relations with China on the basis of Panchsheel (the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence)," he said.
