The Nanjing Publishing House has published a book entitled "Illustrations and Commentary on the Ming Wall in Nanjing".
The 14-21 meter high wall in Nanjing, the capital of east China 's Jiangsu Province, is approximately 33.67 km long, longer than the city walls of Beijing and Paris. The book includes illustrations of ancient walls and inscriptions on 249 engraved bricks.
The oldest part of the City Wall of Nanjing was first built during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period (c. 770-207 B.C). Much of the preserved wall today was rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Experts believe the book is valuable to the study of culture, customs as well as political, economic and social conditions in the Ming Dynasty.
