Putin Breaks 50 Percent Mark in Early Election Returns

Russia's Acting President Vladimir Putin broke the 50 percent mark in early returns of Sunday's presidential elections.

With 46.94 percent of the votes counted, Putin got 50.01 percent, above the 50 percent needed for an outright victory. Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov remained in the second place with 30.77 percent, the Central Election Commission announced early Monday.
