HK Buses Spreading Message on Children's Rights

Some 80 buses running through the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) have been posted with a message on protecting children to mark the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The buses plying different routes are now all decorated with an eye-catching colorful painting bearing the message "Let our children create a better tomorrow," said a spokesman for the Home Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR Sunday.

"While commemorating the 10th birthday of the Convention, it is also timely to remind the public, in particular the parents, of the importance of giving proper care, guidance and protection to the children to ensure their balanced development," he said.

The Convention, adopted by the United Nations in 1989, reaffirms that children, because of their vulnerability, need special care and attention, and protection of their rights over a range of areas including civil rights and freedoms, family care, nationality, detention, employment, education and health.
