China to Hold Major National Film Festival

The Ninth Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, the most prestigious in the Chinese movie business, will be held November 17-21 in this capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Zhang Sitao, Secretary-general Zhang Sitao of China Film Association made the announcement here today. This is the ninth year for the China Golden Rooster Film Festival, which was initiated in 1981, and the Hundred Flowers Film Festival, which was initiated in 1962, to be combined into one event.

During the five-day festival, a dozen awards for this year's best movies, actors and directors will be announced. At the same time, a series of cultural and exchange activities, including film shows, art performances, international seminars and related trade fairs, will be hosted.

Nanning is known for its garden landscape and booming tourism resources. Last year, the city hosted an international folk song and art festival, which will again be staged along with the film festival this year.
