A city known for its vegetable production in Shandong Province, China, Shouguang will hold "Shouguang Vegetable Fair 2000" from April 20 to 24. The fair aims to exhibit vegetable cultivating/processing technologies, new vegetable varieties and achievements made in vegetable production, develop technological cooperation and exchanges, and promote vegetable industry upgrading.
Through developing greenhouse vegetable production since 1989, Shouguang has first built itself into a giant vegetable production base as the largest of China. By now, there are a great vegetable variety and new cultivating technologies as bio-pest control and greenhouse irrigation that have been developed and introduced by it over the area of 600,000 mu (1 hectare = 15 mu) of land, thereby winning it the fame as China's "No.1 Vegetable Garden". Shouguang vegetable wholesale market, one of the top ten farm and sideline products wholesale markets in China, sells an annual amount of over 3 billion kg vegetable/farm and sideline products to over 30 provinces and cities in China and more than 10 foreign countries and regions abroad.
Co-sponsored by the State Administration of Internal Trade, "Vegetable Basket Project" Office and Shouguang City, the fair involves mainly farm produce exhibition, transaction, business talks and negotiation. Vegetable and fruit varieties, cultivation of seedling and in-depth processing of vegetables and fruit along with a wide variety of fungus, flower, new fertilizer, farming machinery and vegetable processing facilities will be exhibited in a 3500 square-meter exhibition hall. As is reported, a large throng of experts from China and abroad, technicians, and businessmen will attend the fair at Shouguang.
