Doubts have lately been cast by armed forces in Taiwan over Chen Shui-bian's Taiwan independence tendency though Democratic Progressive Party has won its "presidential" election on this island of China. Kong Fanding, spokesman of the Taiwan army said on March 21 that no arbitrary territorial changes or land separation should be allowed under Taiwan's current law system and that the army should recognize possible damages to be brought to the country by Taiwan independence. The spokesman said that Taiwan army's mission and task is to safeguard Taiwan's security and guarantee the interests of 23 million Taiwan people and serve as strong support in furthering peaceful cross-Straits relationship. The army has already made clear its stand on Taiwan independence, he added, and anti-Taiwan independence should still occupy an important place in carrying out political education among the armed forces in Taiwan. |
