Interference in China in Name of Rights Doomed to Failure

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said oin Beijing Tuesday that any attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs under the name of human rights is doomed to failure.

Sun made this remark at a press conference in response to a question about reports that the U.S. expects to get its resolution on China's human rights into debate at the UN Human Rights Commission Session in Geneva.

Sun said the Chinese government has made great efforts to protect human rights, and China's human rights condition is at an unprecedented high level right now.

China advocates dialogue and opposes confrontation on this issue in the international arena, however, if there's any confrontational action taken against China this time in Geneva, China would fight against it to the end, the spokesman said.

As to the reported protest from some Falungong members in Geneva, Sun said the actions of the Chinese government to clamp down on the illegal cult is just an effort taken to protect the basic human rights and freedom of its citizens.
