Chinese, French Specialists Discuss Nuclear Power Technologies
Chinese and French specialists discussed new trends in the nuclear power industry and future cooperation between China and France at an international symposium in Beijing Tuesday.
The symposium on French nuclear technologies, sponsored by the French Atomic Energy Commission, attracted more than 300 participants from China, France and other countries. Engineers from three giants in the industry, Electricite de France (EDF), Cogema and Framatome, discussed with their Chinese counterparts design, construction and operation of nuclear power plants, reactors and shielding system.
They also offered a number of technological advices to Chinese companies.
France has been developing power plants for at least 100 years, and latest statistics show that 82 percent of its current electricity consumption comes from nuclear power plants. Michel Vasseneix from EDF, which has been helping China to initiate a new development program since 1997, showed EDF's plan for future nuclear plants in China.
Several Cogema technicians discussed technologies on final processing and recycling of nuclear fuel with the Chinese experts. Cogema leads others internationally on uranium exploration and production.
As an important technology provider for China, Framatome has been in cooperation with Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant, Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant, Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant and Qinghua University for several years.
Many world-renowned nuclear enterprises show their interest in China's plan on nuclear power development. Businesses in 14 countries including France, Germany and the United States are participating in an ongoing international nuclear exhibition in Beijing.
