Zhejiang has planned to build a "West Lake in East China Sea" in the Jiulong Mountain Resort near the Hangzhou Bay. It is the first water conservancy project of importance for ocean utilization and environmental protection in Zhejiang Province. The Jiulong Mountain in Pinghu is situated at the juncture of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. As a national forest park and a provincial tourism resort, it is famous for its location, verdant forests and beautiful scenery. In recent years, the local government has taken tourism as a growth point, a new pivotal industry of national economy. To make full use of the mountain and water resources for its development, it has decided to build a 2.5-kilometer long dam on the sea to form a large blue bay of 2 square kilometers, the unique blue lake to be in the East China Sea. As it is located at the western area of the beach by the Jiulong Mountain, the blue bay is therefore called the "West Lake in East China Sea". The lake integrating gardening, water conservancy and transportation into one entity is a resorting place catering to many activities like sightseeing, tours and sea sports. It will become a famous seashore holiday resort in a few years time. |
