China to build new highway bridge over Yangtze River
A new highway bridge on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River will be built to connect Yangzhou and Zhenjiang cities in East China's Jiangsu Province.
The bridge consists of two parts that will be linked up with a highway section running through the Shiyezhou area. The southern part in Zhenjiang City is a steel-cable suspension bridge with a span of 1,450 meters. The northern part in Yangzhou City is a stayed-cable bridge with a span of 400 meters.
The Yangzhou-Zhenjiang Yangtze River Highway Bridge will have six lanes in dual directions and the total length of the two parts will reach 23 kilometers if added up with the highway section connecting them.
With the approval of the State Council, the bridge will cost more than four billion yuan (480 million US dollars) to complete the bridge and the highway section.
