Pavilion Built to Commemorate Macao's Return

An opening ceremony was held on March 18 for a pavilion that commemorates Macao's return to the mainland last December.

CPPCC Vice chairman Ma Wanqi, Macao SAR's chief executive Edmund Ho, and other officials were present at the opening ceremony of the pavilion.

The pavilion was built by Macao's Chinese Chamber of Commerce, which consists of two round pavilions joined by a wall with an arched door in the shape of the number 99.

The larger of the two pavilions is meant to represent the mainland, while the smaller one symbolizes the Macao SAR. The entire structure symbolizes China's 'One country, two systems' policy.

The chief executive and other top Macao leaders also cut a ribbon for the opening of Macao's 'Green Week'. Twelve officials were given certificates as Green Ambassadors by the SAR government for the event. The duties of the one-year term of service include setting environmental protection examples.

Green Week will last nine days and will have a number of activities with the theme environmental protection.
