International Children's Song Day Celebrated in China
Primary school pupils and pre-school children in Beijing excitedly joined the celebrations for the International Children's Song Day on March 19. This year's theme is "Green Song Activities for Children", with the purpose to increase environmental protection awareness among children.
A large ceremony in this morning in Beijing provided a showplace for children's talent. The children taking part put their energy into showing their ability to sing, dance, and play musical instruments.
Children were also invited to take part in tree planting activities and environmental protection quizzes.
The celebration was sponsored by the National Council on Cultural and Art Work for Children, the Soong Ching Ling Foundation, and China Central Television.
International Children's Song Day was established by the International Poetry Guild in 1976 to call greater attention to problems among children and the need for greater protection and health care.
China began celebrating it in 1999 at the vernal equinox, the beginning of spring on the Chinese lunar calendar. (China Daily)
