Beijing's First Hospital for Wild Animals

Beijing's first hospital for protecting and treating wild wildlife has opened for business recently. About 10 veterinarians are employed at the hospital, on the city's north side, which was established with the approval of the relevant Beijing municipal departments.

More than 300 wild animals have been rescued and treated at the hospital since it opened on a trial basis a year ago. Some of the injured wild animals were first rescued by local residents and then taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Domestic pets are also cared for at the hospital, which is affiliated with the Wild Animals Protection Center under the Beijing Forestry Bureau.

Income from the hospital is used to protect and rescue wild animals.

The Chinese capital has nearly 50 veterinary clinics.
