Germany Thursday called for swift WTO negotiations between the European Union and the People's Republic of China.

German Economics Minister Werner Mueller said in a statement after his talks with e EU. Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy in Berlin Thursday that Germany wants a swift deal with China to pave the way for China's joining in the World Trade Organization.

Mueller stressed in his talks with Lamy that Germany will provide full support to the resumption of the WTO membership negotiation between the EU and China.

"The goal is to wrap up negotiations as fast as possible while safeguarding European market access interests," said the statement.

Lamy will travel to Beijing next week to continue the negotiation for China's entry into the WTO between the EU and China.
