New Project of Zhanjiang Port Aiming at Best Deep-water Port of China

On the afternoon of March 15, the "Hangjun 11" dredger of the Nanjing Sea-Route Engineering Office started from Section One dock of the Zhanjiang Port to dredge the sea-route, thus raising the curtain for the 100,000-ton sea-route project of the Zhanjiang Port Office to renew its title of best deep-water port in South China Sea.

As a good harbor in south China and the state's deepest in 50s, the Zhanjiang Port once enjoyed the same reputation as Dalian Port. However, since it was left undredged for many years, the water depth of the Zhanjiang Port has decreased and the port has thus fallen behind in terms of ranking among the coastal ports of China, making it incommensurate to its fame as a nice deep-water port. In order to meet the need of the development of Zhanjiang City, to serve the development of west China, particularly southwest China and to enhance its competitive power, Zhanjiang Port has decided to invest a huge amount of money to dredge the sea route for 100,000-ton ships, with the great support of the Ministry of Communications and the governments of Guangdong Province and Zhanjiang City. The project is to be carried out in two stages, after its completion, the Port will be navigable for 150,000-ton-class ships.

It's reported that a project of 150,000-ton oil dock will be launched in the second half of this year and a 150,000-ton sand dock and related necessary equipment of deep-water sea-route at the beginning of next year in Zhanjiang Port.
