Saturday, March 18, 2000, updated at 10:31(GMT+8) Editorial Anti-China Farce Must Be Stopped(By Wang Tian)Highlight: This commentary advises US Senate to keep the promise made by the US government of not supporting the "independence of Tibet", immediately stop using the "Tibet issue" as a means for intervening in China's internal affairs and immediately halt its endless anti-China farce. Following is the full text of this commentary: On March 9, US Congress Senate passed the draft resolution on the so-called national day of Tibet, agitating for designating March 10, 2000 as the "national day of the Tibetans". This absurd act of encroaching upon China's sovereignty, wantonly interfering in China's internal affairs and violating the basic norms of international relationship has aroused the strong resentment and resolute opposition of the Chinese people. The fact that certain US politicians with vicious intention have tried their utmost to push the adoption of the above-mentioned draft resolution is, in essence, advertising the "independence of Tibet", in order to achieve their aim of splitting China, undermining China's political stability and containing China. It is universally acknowledged that Tibet is an inseparable part of Chinese territory, all previous central governments of China have, since the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), always directly exercised sovereignty over Tibet. There has never been a country in the world that recognized Tibet as an "independent country". The so-called Tibet issue is actually a signboard created by the Dalai clique who vainly attempts to split the motherland and seek "independence" of Tibet. Disregarding Tibet's history and reality, a handful of US anti-China politicians have repeatedly used the "Tibet issue" as a pretext to unjustifiably interfere in China's internal affairs. In the draft resolution of the US Senate, the anti-China politicians wantonly distort Tibet's historical facts, and viciously attack and slander the Chinese government. In fact, it is evident for all to see that the Chinese government has done its best for the development of Tibet. Before the peaceful liberation of Tibet, 95 percent of the Tibetan people had been serfs generation after generation, today, they are masters of the country; in 1949, the average life expectancy of Tibetans was only 36 years which has now extended to 65 years. It is not that certain people in the United States have not seen all these, but rather they refuse to recognize all these. The US government has, for a long time, always recognized Tibet as part of China, undertaking not to support "Tibet independence", now that US Senate cooks up the "national day of Tibet", isn't this contradicting itself? The affairs of Tibet are purely China's internal affairs, no foreign country has the right to meddle. On what ground does US Senate rely to make irresponsible remarks about China's affairs? Is there an iota of legality for it to do so? If a country designates a day as the "independent day" of a certain US state, What feeling will US Senators have about this? Some Americans prate about "safeguarding Tibet's human rights", and are now wantonly and illegally interfering in China's internal affairs, isn't this a violation the human rights of the entire Chinese people, including the Tibetan people? In fact, the serious thing the US Senate should do is to show concern for the basic human rights of the minority clan descendants of the United States. In February last year, Guinean immigrant Amadou Diallo died a tragic death in a New York street after he was hit by 41 bullets, the murderer was found to be a white policeman. Even President Bill Clinton has admitted that if Diallo was a white man, he wouldn't have suffered the misfortune. .A material from the US News Office has admitted that in the greater part of its history, the United States has failed to guarantee the basic human rights of many citizens-especially Americans of African descent, aboriginal Americans and all women. Clearly, it is the United States itself that should make a historical explanation on its destruction of American aboriginal culture and should introspect and examine its minority ethnic policies! We advise the US Senate to keep the promise made by the US government of not supporting "independence of Tibet", immediately halt using the "Tibet issue" as a means for intervening in China's internal affairs and immediately stop its anti-China farce.
