Friday, March 17, 2000, updated at 15:04(GMT+8) China Guangzhou Helps A Vagrant Taiwan Compatriot Return HomeA Taiwan Compatriot, who had lost his certificates and had been wandering in Guangzhou for three years, succeeded in leaving Guangzhou on March 14 with the help of related authorities. Policemen and security personnel of Longjin Street Police Station of Liwan District, Guangzhou City recently discovered in Changshou Market a certain person called Huang, a Taiwan compatriot who had lost his purse and "Taiwan ID card" and had been wandering in Guangzhou for three years. After learning about this, leaders of the district and city departments paid great attention to the matter and warmly helped the compatriot solve his difficulty. Policemen of Liwan District and officials of the local Taiwan Affairs Office offered meals and soup to him, found him an inn room, bought him new shoes and shirts and helped him have his photo taken for his needed certificates. The Public Security Bureau of Liwan District, Taiwan Affairs Office of Guangzhou City and Guangzhou Public Security Bureau granted him the exit permit in time. Taiwan Affairs Office in Guangzhou also sent him 500 yuan. All of the efforts enabled the compatriot to smoothly go through the formalities of leaving for Taiwan through HK on March 14. Before departure, the Taiwan compatriot repeatedly expressed his gratitude to the policemen and officials of Taiwan Affairs Office for their warmhearted help.
