China's Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan today urged the U.S. government to honor its "series of serious commitments" on the Taiwan issue and do things to facilitate peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

"The 'One China' principle is a basic foundation and prerequisite for the reunification of China and China will not allow any separatist forces to split Taiwan from it in any form," stressed the foreign minister at a press conference here this afternoon.

He also reiterated that the settlement of the Taiwan issue falls within China's internal affairs, pure and simple.
