China and India will hold security dialogue in Beijing, the first of its kind on the departmental level, in line with the consensus of both foreign ministers, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said on Tuesday.

China and India are major countries in Asia who are responsible for the peace and stability in the region, he said in a regular press conference Tuesday.

He urged India to implement "comprehensively and seriously" the No.1172 resolution by the United Nations on the South Asian nuclear issue.

The coming security dialogue will help increase mutual understanding, enlarge consensus and increase cooperation, he added.
