Wednesday, March 08, 2000, updated at 16:08(GMT+8) China Women Cadres Growing in Force in ChinaIt is learned from the Publicity Department and the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee that the work of training and selection of women cadres in China has achieved remarkable success under the solicitous care of the CPC Central Committee and the Chinese government. By the end of 1999, there are 14.697 million women who have been called into public services in China, to show a 3.3-fold increase over 1978; women cadres have come to make 37.6% of the country's public servants, registering a 9.8 percentage points rise over 1978. Following a growth in the number of women public servants, women cadres are being seen in enlarged numbers, a 2.6 times growth by the end of 1999 over 1978, to assume offices for their excellence at various levels of government departments in China. Of these, women cadres working at the county level and above have come to a total of 78,000, representing a 5.7-fold increase over the early post-liberation years in China. Women cadres are seen generally to have a higher education. Of women cadres doing office work at various levels of governments, 59.1% have got a junior college education. In the past 20 years, there are a total of 85,000 women cadres who have been chosen to hold offices at and above county levels Meanwhile, there has also been registered a great growth in the number of women technologists, engineers and technicians in China. As things stand in China today, there are already as many as 11.569 million women, 5.3 times increase over 1978, working with expertise in many a varied technical fields of state-owned enterprises, manufactories and government institutions.
