Green Food Becoming Popular in China

Green food is becoming more popular in China as a result of improving living standards. As an example, in Fuzhou, capital of coastal Fujian Province in east China, green-food growing bases are now unable to meet local demands.

Along with Fuzhou, other major green-food growers in China include Beijing, Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, and several cities in Shandong Province also in eastern China.

These places now produce a combined 30 percent of the country's green vegetables and fruit, which account for only 10 to 20 percent of total vegetable and fruit production, leaving great potential for the development of China's green-food agriculture.

Chinese now have greater interest in green food for in variety, quality, and safety guarantees, and the market for green food is sharply increasing.

The green-food industry took off later in China compared with developed country, but has seen great progress although facing difficulties such as a shortage of money, backward technology, and a fledging market and legal system.
