HK to Bid for Asian Games

On Monday, Hong Kong SAR Acting Chief Executive, Anson Chan, expressed Hong Kong's determination and confidence to offer a very competitive bid for the 2006 Asian Games in Hong Kong.

The first meeting of Hong Kong's 2006 Asian Games bid committee was held in Hong Kong on Monday after it was appointed on Friday.

The government would give the Sports Federations & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, (SF&OC) its full support. "We are fully aware of the keen competition from neighboring countries. We need at the end of the day to be able to convince the Olympic Council of Asia of our competence and determination to host a world class Asian Games in 2006," said Chan

This is the first time that Hong Kong offered a official bid for the Asian Games in its sports history.
