Chinese President Jiang Zemin expressed in his message of condolence on March 5 over the death of noted Taiwan physicist Wu Ta-you, who died of illness Saturday afternoon in Taipei at the age of 95.

To Family members of Mr. Wu Ta-you,

I feel shocked and deeply grieved to hear of the death of Mr Wu Ta-you and convey my heartfelt condolences through this telegraph.

Mr. Wu dedicated his whole life to the cause of scientific research and education and made great contribution to China's scientific development. He enjoyed a high reputation in the physical circle. He concerned himself with China's reunification and devoted his energy to the prosperity and strength of the nation and made outstanding contribution to cross-Strait scientific, technological and academic exchanges, and was thus highly praised by compatriots between the two sides of the Straits.
