Monday, March 06, 2000, updated at 14:13(GMT+8) Editorial CPC Represents Advanced Productive ForcesThe key to running China well lies with the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to a commentary carried today in the People's Daily. Quoting Chinese President Jiang Zemin, the commentary says as long as the CPC represents advanced productive forces, advanced culture and the interests of the Chinese people, it will enjoy the support of all nationalities and remain invincible. The commentary stresses that the top priority of the CPC is to embody the development needs of an advanced society. Higher productive forces added to an advanced social system will ensure China stands tall among all nations. All of its policies are geared toward promoting productive forces, strengthening the national economy, and improving people's living standards, it says, adding that this is the mission of the Chinese Communists. The commentary highlights the past two decades, during which the CPC has done its utmost to enhance the nation's productive forces, and hence China has achieved successes that have attracted worldwide attention. It also notes that the CPC will focus on science and technology as they are primary productive forces, and will attach great importance to training scientific and technical talents and to developing the cause of science and technology.
