Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong Province handled 46 million tons of goods last year, ranking as the eighth major port in China. The port handled 2.98 million standard containers last year, making it the country's second biggest container port and the world's 15th largest. Some 23.36 million tons of goods for international trading went through the port last year, up 37 percent on an annual basis. The port also handled 22.64 million tons of goods for domestic trading last year, also up 37 percent. The port authority estimated that it will handle 48 million tons of goods this year, including a record 3.8 million standard containers. The port now operates 38 international container shipping routes, involving 23 international shipping companies. |
