Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji called here today for an earnest implementation of all reform measures and doing a better job this year.

Zhu joined some members of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) today in a group discussion. He told members from economic circles that China has fulfilled its targets for economic reform and development last year and that an earnest implementation of the policy measures of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee would enable the nation to achieve better results this year.

The CPPCC National Committee members voiced their opinions on a variety of topics including speeding up the building of a rural financial system, establishing a technological innovation system, developing new and hi-tech industries, accelerating rural economic restructuring and nurturing an efficient and green agriculture.

Another major topic of today's discussion is how to accelerate the development of China's western areas. "Investment climate should be first improved for an effective implementation of the strategy of developing the western areas, and talents is another key for the strategy," CPPCC National Committee member Yin Mingshan said.

During the discussion, members from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) talked about Hong Kong's economic development and offered advices for national economic development.

The CPPCC National Committee members also aired opinions on expanding domestic demand, deepening State Enterprise Reform, and developing IT industry in China.

Vice-chairmen of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee Chen Junsheng, Hu Qili, Chen Jinhua and Jing Shuping also attended the group discussion.
