Shenzhen Mounts Fight Against Shoddy Goods

Shenzhen, an economic boomtown in the south China coastal province of Guangdong, will intensify efforts to crack down on cases related to marketing and manufacturing fake and shoddy goods this year.

Nie Zhenguang, deputy head of the task force against fake goods, has pledged to work untiringly to ferret out all kinds of inferior and shoddy goods and deal with trademark infringement relentlessly. Nie said it is vital to protect the rights of both consumers and traders.

Last year, Shenzhen dealt with 3,736 cases involving such products and destroyed 140 underground production plants. A total of 13.19 million yuan was collected in fines plus the value of fake products confiscated. Meanwhile, local police arrested 11 people and detained 67 others for producing and marketing counterfeit products and infringing on the rights of genuine trademark holders and consumers.
