Saturday, March 04, 2000, updated at 09:52(GMT+8) China Jiang Praises Sino-Russian Strategic PartnershipChinese President Jiang Zemin said on March 3 in Beijing that it has been proved time and again that the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination is a wise choice and it has historic significance. Jiang told visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov that there are bright prospects for the Sino-Russian cooperation as the leaders of the two countries support the forging of the strategic partnership of coordination, pushed forward the bilateral exchanges and cooperation, promoted the multi-polarization process and enhanced the international standings of the two countries. Jiang expressed his confidence in the future of the bilateral ties, saying that in the new millennium, the two countries should be good neighbors, partners and friends by trusting each other and pursuing common development. He spoke highly of the close attention paid by Russian Acting President Vladimir Putin to the Sino-Russian ties, and asked Klebanov to convey his greetings and regards to Putin. Klebanov passed Putin's regards to Jiang. He said that his current visit is an important mission in preparation for the China visit of the new Russian president to be elected in the upcoming general election. He said that Putin valued the Russia-China relationship, and Russia will adhere to the policy of maintaining friendly ties with China. Russia will firmly support China's principled stand on the Taiwan issue, and will spare no efforts to push forward the multi-polarization process, the deputy Prime Minister said. He noted that Putin is looking forward to meeting with President Jiang. He also briefed Jiang on Russia's economic situation, saying that steady improvements have appeared in all the economic sectors in Russia. The Russian government is determined to lead the country to prosperity and development. Jiang praised Russia as a great nation, and said he appreciated Russia's support of China on the Taiwan issue. Jiang said that the Chinese government backs Russia's position and actions on the Chechnya issue. He also said that he is looking forward to the Sino-Russian summit meeting this year.
