China, US Jointly Build Wideband Network for E-Commerce

China and the United States will jointly build China's largest wideband e-commerce network, it was announced Thursday by Best of China Com. Inc in Shanghai.

The new network is expected to be open this summer and will enable Chinese enterprises and foreign firms to conduct e-business through the Internet.

Ralph Miller, president of Best of China Com. Inc, said that the network may support e-business of thousands of products. And both the internal trade and import and export trade will be easy and safe through the network.

New technologies developed by IBM Corporation will be adopted in the network.

E-commerce, an entirely new method of doing business via the Internet, is experiencing rapid growth worldwide. Many Chinese websites have been actively engaged in e-commerce during the past few years, seeking customers who are learning to shop online.

China's e-commerce, however, is facing problems such as a less-developed Internet infrastructure and a lack of regulations and laws.
