Friday, March 03, 2000, updated at 17:13(GMT+8) Culture Women Bosses Up to 32% in ShanghaiEnterprises privately run in today's Shanghai have run to as many as 113,000; of these, women bosses, women entrepreneurs or women managers have come to take up 32% in the city. Of these women bosses, according to a news report of Liberation Daily, over 90% had once been made factory directors, managers or professional technicians in state-owned enterprises. But instead of hankering after a life of the past, they find themselves in a new work position fully to their hearts' content though there are greater unexpected challenges they have to meet than a life during the "iron rice bower days". The Liberation Daily report also says that of the women bosses said, 61.7% think they have a promising future; 21.7% say they have a bright future but no one regrets about their new choices made. Adding to people's epithets as of "white collar" and "golden collar" as have been applied in life, a new title "pink collar" has now been won by these women bosses in Shanghai. A fact to be noted is that most of these women bosses have had a high education and wide social ties to advance their personal cause and development of private undertakings. Though no definite figures are found on hand to tell how many "pink collars" there are in Shanghai, yet as women bosses they have come to make a force of 32% among the various enterprises privately run in Shanghai today.
