Friday, March 03, 2000, updated at 09:21(GMT+8) China Top Advisory Body Supports Government Stance on ReunificationChina's top advisory body declared its firm support for the government stance Thursday on facilitating the complete reunification of the motherland and maintaining national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) is firmly against any attempt to separate Taiwan from the motherland, said Tian Zengpei, a spokesman for the Third Session of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee. The annual CPPCC session will open Friday. The return of Hong Kong and Macao to the embrace of the motherland marks significant progress toward the reunification of the motherland, which makes the Taiwan issue and the complete reunification of the motherland a more prominent issue facing the Chinese people including the Taiwan compatriots and overseas Chinese, the spokesman said. Tian said the CPPCC endorses the principles spelt out in the recently-issued white paper entitled "The One-China Principle and The Taiwan Issue", supports the government stance on the Taiwan issue and all the measures the government takes in that regard. The CPPCC will spare no effort in promoting the "one country, two systems" principle and the eight-point propositions put forward by Chinese President Jiang Zemin on the reunification of the motherland, and furthering cross-Straits exchanges under the One-China principle so as to achieve a complete and early reunification and rejuvenation of the motherland.
