The Chinese people are enjoying full human rights and freedoms at an unprecedented historical level, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao. Zhu made the remarks Beijing Thursday at the regular press conference in response to a relevant question.

All the basic human rights of the Chinese people have been fully protected, said Zhu, adding that the Chinese people are satisfied with it and that it is a fact widely recognized by the international community.

He said that the 1.2 billion Chinese people are best qualified to evaluate and say whether the Chinese human rights situation has deteriorated or improved.

The Chinese government always attaches great importance to its cooperation with the United Nations high commissioner for human rights and hopes that the U.N. high commissioner will work with the Chinese side to further the cooperation on the principles of objectiveness, equality and mutual respect, Zhu said.
