Number One Proposal of CPPCC Focuses on West Development

Up to 5 o'clock on the afternoon of March 2, the 3rd Session of the 9th CPPCC National Committee has received 332 proposals from the committee members.

These involve issues of the development in western regions, education, construction in the regions of ethnic minorities, building up an honest and better government, transforming the State-owned Enterprises, etc. Of all these proposals 133 have been put into file for discussion after the first examination. The proposal concerning the "construction of the industrial belt along the Longhai Railroads for pushing ahead the economic development in the middle and western regions" put forward by the Central Committee of the China Association for Promotion Democracy (CAPD) was listed as the "Number One Proposal".

According to information released from the secretariat of the 3rd Session of the 9th CPPCC National Committee, the west development, quality education, and industrialization of the high-tech have become the hotspots of the conference, and among these proposals the west development has attracted the attention of all the Committee members. By the time as mentioned above, over 380 written materials for speech had been submitted to the conference, of which one fifth proffered detailed expositions on the west development.
