Excellent Primary and High School Teachers to Study Abroad

To train leaders in, and raise the general level of, primary and high school foreign-language teaching, China Scholarship Council and Foreign Language Education Research Center under the National Basic Education Experimental Center have jointly signed an agreement on establishing a scholarship for outstanding primary and high school teachers to study abroad. Wei Yu, vice-minister of Education, was present at the ceremony.

It is reported that the scholarship worth 3 million yuan will be provided each year. With the money, 100 excellent primary and high school teachers will be selected from across the country to go abroad for a 3-6 months' training. The training includes such contents as foreign language knowledge and skill, modern foreign language educational ideology, modern foreign language teaching methods and means. The project will be put into practice this year, and is planned to be on trial implementation for five years.
