Sun Jin Enters Top Eight at Table Tennis Qualifying Tournament

Sun Jin, top women's seed of China entered the top eight in the 2000 Olympics Table Tennis Asian Qualifying Tournament which opened in Hong Kong on Tuesday.

After beating Kim Yun Mi from DPR Korea, Sun who are just crowned in World Team Championships last week as member of Chinese Team, edged Tsui Hsiu Li of Chinese Taipei and Japanese Umemura Ava both in straight sets.

Powerhouse China fielded three men and three women in the singles. They will vie for just one berth to Sydney because the top two Chinese men players Liu Guoliang and Kong Linghui and women players Wang Nan, and Li Ju had already clinched their berths automatically in the finals of the Sydney Olympics, relying on ITTF world rankings.

A total of 108 competitors from 20 Asian countries and regions will vie for 11 men's singles and women's singles berths and six men's and women's doubles berths respectively.
